About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists to join the Regional Cancer Treatment Service at Te Whatu Ora Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua | MidCentral in an Administration Assistant/Resource Role. This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week) working Monday – Friday. This position provides vital administrative support across Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, and Haematology services.
As this is a relief-based role, responsible for covering a variety of administrative positions within the service. Your day-to-day location and duties will vary depending on where support is most needed. One day you might be scheduling appointments for radiation treatment, systemic therapy, or outpatient clinics; the next, you could be welcoming patients at reception or assisting with processes on the inpatient oncology ward.
As a key enabler of high-quality care, you'll help ensure the smooth, efficient operation of services—making a meaningful impact on the experience of patients and their whānau throughout their cancer care journey.
You'll also play an important role in supporting effective communication and coordination across our regional network, helping to strengthen relationships between districts and with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Our team delivers high-quality, patient-focused cancer care for a growing regional population that spans Masterton, Hawke's Bay, Palmerston North, Whanganui, and Taranaki. As part of this regional network, you'll be committed to a whole-system approach and will play a key role in enhancing service delivery and access. About you
- Proven administrative experience, ideally in the health or social services sector
- Strong skills in appointment scheduling and coordination
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- High level of computer literacy and confidence using Microsoft Office and patient management systems
- Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritise effectively in a busy and evolving environment
- Flexibility and a proactive, solutions-focused approach
- An understanding of—or interest in—cancer treatment services is desirable
