Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | The opportunity
NZSE invites expressions of interest for the Associate Head of School – Health, a full-time permanent leadership opportunity for a strategic academic leader ready to shape health education growth. We seek a future-focused leader with business acumen, academic credibility, and industry insight.
You will provide strategic direction, build industry partnerships, and lead both operational delivery and strategic expansion, including developing new programmes aligned with national health workforce priorities and emerging industry trends.
This is a permanent full-time opportunity as Associate Head of School and the opportunity to also cover as Acting Head of School initially whilst our Head of School is on parental leave.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the school's academic operations, curriculum delivery, and teaching excellence
- Oversee the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum
- Ensure compliance with NZQA standards and academic quality assurance frameworks
- Drive growth in higher education offerings through programme development and accreditation
- Identify opportunities for innovation, applied research, and work-integrated learning
- Develop strategic relationships with industry partners, community groups and stakeholders
- Contribute to cross-organisational leadership and strategic planning
- Build a high-performing team culture
- Represent the organisation at sector events and professional networks
- Enhance employment pathways, placement and industry relevance of programmes
Ko koe tēnei | About you
You are a strategic and collaborative leader with a deep understanding of the health and tertiary education sector in New Zealand.
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum Master’s qualification in a relevant Health discipline (Doctorate preferred) with active research engagement
- Demonstrated academic leadership and experience in tertiary education management
- Strong business and commercial acumen - including budget oversight and growth strategy
- Proven track record of building and leveraging industry partnerships
- Experience in developing or expanding higher education qualifications (Level 7–9) preferred
- New Zealand Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (Level 5) or willing to work towards one
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive education practices
