About the Role
We are looking for flexible and compassionate Care Associates to join our Casual Relief Team. In this role, you’ll provide support to nursing staff and assist patients with essential daily tasks, including mobility, hygiene, nutrition, and comfort. You’ll be deployed to different wards and departments depending on where the need is highest, making each shift unique and rewarding.
This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys variety, can adapt quickly, and is committed to delivering high-quality patient care. As part of the relief team, you’ll be helping to ensure smooth continuity of care during periods of high demand, leave cover, or unexpected absences.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Our Relief Team plays a vital role in maintaining safe and effective care throughout the hospital. As a Care Associate, you’ll have the opportunity to work with different clinical teams, learn from a variety of specialties, and broaden your healthcare knowledge in a hands-on environment.
Based at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, you’ll be joining a collaborative, caring workforce dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of our diverse community.

About you
You’re a caring, reliable, and adaptable individual who is passionate about supporting others. You bring a strong sense of empathy and professionalism to your work and take pride in ensuring patients feel safe, respected, and well cared for.
You will have:
- A genuine interest in healthcare and supporting patient wellbeing
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- The ability to adapt to different wards and clinical teams with confidence
- A positive, can-do attitude with a strong team ethic
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting or caregiving role (preferred but not essential)
- Availability to work a range of shifts, including mornings, afternoons, nights, and weekends
Training will be provided for successful candidates, and we welcome applications from those who are new to the healthcare sector but have a passion for care and a desire to learn.
