On behalf of the Minister of Building and Construction, the Ministry is seeking candidates who wish to be considered for appointment as a member of the Chartered Professional Engineers Council.
About CPEC
The Chartered Professional Engineers Council (the Council) is a statutory body established under the Chartered Professional Engineers Act 2002 (the Act). The Council's role includes reviewing proposed changes to rules, hearing appeals from decisions of the Registration Authority in relation to registration and complaints and reviewing and reporting to the Minister on the performance of the Registration Authority.
At this time, the Minister for Building and Construction is seeking candidates for member roles on the Council, whose skills and experience align with the following:
Specific skills required
Legal Professional:
- A qualified lawyer with experience in administrative, regulatory, or professional disciplinary law.
- Understanding of Statutory and Regulatory Frameworks, ideally relating to the construction industry.
- Experience in legal processes related to appeals, complaints, and disciplinary hearings, particularly in a professional or licensing context.
- Ability to contribute to decision-making with sound legal and ethical reasoning.
Additional skills, experience and attributes required
Ideally candidates will have one or more of the following:
- an appreciation of the responsibilities of the Council
- applicable legal experience / familiarity to inform the appeals process
- governance experience and in particular governance in the public section
- the ability to work effectively in a collegial decision-making environment
- commitment and integrity
- effective communications skills
- understanding of statutory responsibilities and government processes, for example accountability and conflict of interest
- understanding of the role of engineers within society across various disciplines.
Anyone who is a member of the governing body of the Registration Authority, or an employee of the Registration Authority is excluded from consideration for the Chartered Professional Engineers Council.
