The NZDF Force Health Organisation is responsible for the provision of health services to NZDF military personnel. The Force Health Organisation at Devonport Naval Base is looking for a civilian doctor to join the Defence Health Centre Devonport team, to provide primary healthcare, occupational and preventive medicine to our military personnel, with a significant focus on musculoskeletal injuries. Being a military environment, occupational health considerations are a part of every health decision making interaction.

Our doctors work as part of a multidisciplinary team including Nursing, Administration, Physiotherapy, Complex Care Coordination and military command. Confidence in navigating a rapidly changing environment and complex systems is essential. The desire to be a team player and make a difference is critical to the success of the applicant.

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced GP who enjoys working in a fast-paced, high-performance environment. The role would suit an individual with excellent inter-personal and communication skills who enjoys problem-solving and displays flexible thinking. Interest and/or experience in areas such as sports, travel, occupational and/or dive medicine is highly desirable.

You must be a member of, or eligible for membership of RNZ College of GPs.

If you are the preferred candidate post interview, you may be required to provide certified copies of your medical qualifications including your practicing/registration certificate and a statement of good standing.

To be eligible for the required level of government security clearance with the NZ Defence Force, you need to meet certain citizenship and residency criteria. Here's what you need to know:

Low Level Security Clearance

  • You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
  • At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last five (5) years.
  • You must have a five (5) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
