You bring clarity and compassion to patients living with complex skin, hair and nail conditions – now it's time to find the same clarity in your own career. Whether it's more balance, access to subspecialty work or a change of pace, New Zealand has something for you.

At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, you'll work in a multidisciplinary team providing specialist dermatological care across outpatient, surgical and inpatient settings. We're welcoming qualified Dermatologists who are committed to equitable, patient-centred care.

Opportunities across Health New Zealand

Dermatologists work in secondary and tertiary services throughout Aotearoa (New Zealand). Depending on the location, your work may include:

  • Medical dermatology
  • Skin cancer diagnosis and management
  • Minor surgical procedures and excisions
  • Phototherapy and laser clinics (in some centres)
  • Paediatric dermatology
  • Teledermatology and rural outreach services

You may also contribute to service development, clinical teaching or registrar supervision as part of your role.

What it's like to work here

Dermatologists are respected senior medical officers within internal medicine and surgical teams. You'll often work alongside general practitioners, plastic surgeons, rheumatologists and other specialists as part of coordinated patient care.

You'll benefit from:

  • Dedicated non-clinical time for teaching, audit or service improvement
  • Supportive peer networks and protected CME funding
  • Flexible work arrangements depending on service needs
  • Access to advanced imaging and procedural technologies
  • Time to enjoy a slower, more sustainable pace of life

Call New Zealand home

If you receive a job offer, our Health Immigration Service provides free support to help you and your whānau (family) relocate. Dermatologists are on Tier 1 of New Zealand's Green List, making you eligible for the Straight to Residence Visa – meaning you can apply for residency before you even arrive.

New Zealand offers coastlines, national parks, vibrant cities and small communities where your contribution will be truly valued. Whether you're into tramping, kayaking, food or photography, your next adventure is never far away.

Salary & benefits

Base salary: NZD $170,000 – $250,000+ (based on the ASMS MECA)

Additional compensation: On-call, availability and after-hours rates where applicable

You'll also receive:

  • Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance (up to NZD $16,000)
  • CME leave (up to 10 days per year)
  • Six weeks of annual leave per year
  • Reimbursement of Medical Council registration and APC
  • Paid professional indemnity cover
  • Parental leave and long service entitlements
  • Twelve public holidays per year

What you need to work here
