About the Role

This position is a dynamic, high-pressured, and full responsibility. The Duty Nurse Manager (DNM) plays a pivotal role in ensuring that hospital wards and departments operate smoothly, safely, and efficiently over a 24-hour period - especially during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays when senior leadership may not be present. Over a 24 hour period you will provide:-

  • Leadership: Providing visible, calm, and confident leadership across the hospital.
  • Decision-Making: Balancing clinical needs with operational realities.
  • Problem Solving: Quick thinking in emergencies or conflict situations.
  • Support: Advocating for staff well-being and patient safety.
  • Communication: Liaising between departments and levels of seniority.

About the Team/Service Location

The DNM team are part of the Integrated Operation Centre ( IOC) and are responsible for the effective operational management of the 24 hours/7 days hospital service delivery at both Wellington Regional Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital. The IOC supports clinical teams, systems, processes and resources that facilitate safe and effective service delivery across the organisation.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Nursing
  • Experience in patient flow
  • NZRC core advanced
  • Proficient - Expert on the PDRP
  • Critical care experience
