You’ll be joining us at an exciting time. We’re at the start of a new chapter for Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland as we tackle some of the major challenges our city faces.

The new Auckland Urban Development Office (AUDO) has been established to deliver Auckland Council’s ongoing urban regeneration programme and lead the integrated delivery of urban development activities in partnership with the government, private developers and iwi.

To realise our aspirations for a sustainable, well connected and thriving city, we know we need better infrastructure and amenities, and more homes and businesses, in the right places. With a focus on leveraging commercial opportunities to achieve better outcomes for Auckland, the establishment of the AUDO enhances council’s ability to achieve smart and sustainable development in strategically prioritised growth areas around the region.

As we build our new Community Engagement unit within the AUDO, we’re looking for four new additions to our team, at a range of experience levels.

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

We know how crucial it is to take Aucklanders on the journey with us, and the importance of high-quality and effective engagement with our elected members, partners and stakeholders. To help with this, we’re looking for four new communications and engagement professionals to join us – at advisor/specialist, senior and principal level.

Working as part of a passionate and collaborative team, you will engage with stakeholders and help tell the stories of positive change that is happening in some of Auckland’s most loved neighbourhoods like Avondale, Henderson, Manukau, Papatoetoe and Pukekohe. We also lead engagement for the city centre, which is transforming into a prosperous, people-focused place for all to enjoy, and where business and cultural expression thrive for future generations.

You will be:

· Crafting and/or implementing communications and engagement plans, and delivering high-quality public engagement and stakeholder management

· Providing expert advice to support good decision-making by embedding community voice in our mahi

· Fostering a culture of meaningful communications and engagement which builds trust between council and communities

· Using your finely tuned radar to maximise storytelling opportunities, and to identify and mitigate risks early.

· Leveraging your multi-tasking skills to support project teams to deliver on time and on budget

· Proactively working with a wide range of colleagues to collectively deliver high-quality work that protects and enhances Auckland Council’s reputation

He kōrero mōu: About you

Are you passionate about community engagement and ready to help drive positive change?

· You have a passion for our city and its future potential, and empathy for our diverse customers and stakeholders as we progress transformational change for Auckland

· You’re inquisitive about our city and its many neighbourhoods, and the many disciplines required to best serve our communities and deliver urban regeneration

· You’ll have experience of diverse communications and engagement strategies, tools, techniques and channels, and strong cultural competencies for engaging with diverse communities

· You recognise that Te Ao Māori and our Māori communities should contribute significantly and meaningfully in the current reshaping of Tāmaki Makaurau

· You’re collaborative and relationship-led and have the skills to build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with a wide range of people at all levels

· Experience in the public sector and working in a matrix environment is desirable, but not essential

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer
