THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are looking for an experienced “Engineering Manager – China” to join our operations based in either Christchurch or Dunedin on a full-time basis. The Engineering Manager will be taking the lead in managing our engineering team based in China.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for managing engineering resources to drive performance and deliver technically excellent project outcomes. You’ll work closely with the sales team to develop innovative, customer-focused solutions that meet both commercial and technical goals.
This position requires regular international travel to China with up to four times per year, with each trip potentially lasting up to four weeks.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSBILITIES:
- Engineering Initiatives: you will drive continuous improvement and ensure technical best practices across design and controls, overseeing engineering processes, tools, and code quality to deliver high-standard, cost-effective solutions on time. You'll provide strong leadership, support project execution, and collaborate cross-functionally including with sales and global teams to enhance technical capabilities and align engineering output with business objectives.
- People Management: you will lead, motivate, and manage a high-performing engineering team by overseeing workflow, performance, resourcing, and development, ensuring alignment with project and business objectives. This includes maintaining accurate resource planning, fostering staff growth through mentoring and development plans, managing performance, and ensuring the team has the tools and environment needed to succeed.
- Expertise/Leadership: as part of the management team, you will contribute to strategic decision-making by providing accurate, timely insights on operations, culture, and business performance. You'll work closely with your manager and project teams to align priorities, recommend improvements, and ensure company objectives are achieved.
- Project Delivery: you will proactively monitor engineering tasks from a budget and commercial standpoint to support project delivery. Additionally, you’ll ensure accurate and accessible documentation related to staff, training, and budgets is consistently maintained.
ABOUT YOU:
- Bachelor of Engineering, Certificate in Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering Technology, or Diploma of Engineering.
- Electrical Trade or qualification will be viewed favourably but not essential.
- Technical expertise in both Design and Controls Engineering.
- Understands software of CAD and electrical programming of PLC/HMI/Servo/SCADA.
- The ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers.
- Have the right to live and work in China permanently.
- Have a current driver’s license.
- Be customer and results focused, have integrity, and be a proven team-player.
