Au Mahi | What You Will Do

Are you a security leader who thrives on shaping strategy and rolling up your sleeves to deliver technical solutions? As our Enterprise Security Architect, you will design and implement secure, scalable architecture that protects and enables the University of Canterbury's digital future.

This role combines big-picture strategic thinking with hands-on technical execution. You'll set direction, define frameworks, and influence senior decisions - while also engaging directly in technical design, configuration, and solution delivery.

You will:

  • Lead the design, delivery, and ongoing evolution of UC's enterprise security architecture
  • Define and embed security frameworks, policies, and technologies that meet global best practice
  • Drive security-by-design across major initiatives, from cloud migration to zero-trust architectures
  • Collaborate with leaders, architects, engineers, and vendors to align security with UC's digital strategy
  • Apply emerging technologies and practical solutions to strengthen UC's security posture.

Mou | Who You Are

We're looking for a security architect who can see the big picture and make it real - someone who can shape enterprise-wide strategy while delivering hands-on technical solutions that protect and enable UC's mission.

You will bring:

  • 15+ years in the IT/Digital industry (including at least 5 in Enterprise Security Architecture or Security Technical Lead)
  • A proven track record in designing and implementing enterprise security frameworks, policies, and tools in large or complex organisations
  • Experience leading security platforms and tools and/or major technology platform deployments with a security-by-design approach
  • Deep expertise in threat modelling, security assessment and risk assessment
  • The ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate across business, technology, and vendor teams
  • Relevant qualifications and ideally certifications such as CISSP, CRISC, CGEIT, CISM, COBIT, SABSA, TOGAF (Security), or equivalent.

Mahi Ng tahi | Who You Will Work With

You'll join our Digital Security and Risk Team - a close-knit group of passionate professionals who thrive on collaboration, creativity, and making a real difference. We're not just here to tick boxes; we push boundaries, challenge the status quo, and innovate to create smarter, safer, and more resilient digital experiences for our staff, students, and community. People are at the heart of what we do. We believe great digital solutions start with listening, understanding, and working alongside those we serve.

You'll also be part of our wider Digital Services wh nau - a large, dynamic team committed to building world-class digital capability. We're creating a modern, flexible foundation that enables the University to explore new business models, adopt better ways of working, and transform the way we connect, learn, and grow.

Together, we're shaping a digital future where technology empowers people, and people inspire technology.
