About the role
Right now, we have a full-time fixed term opportunity for an outstanding Environmental Technical Officer or Food Verifier to join our Environmental Health Team to cover 12 months of parental leave. Due to the limited amount of time the successful candidate will be with us, we will only be considering applications that show current experience as an Alcohol Licensing Inspector and/or Food Act Verifier. You will work to promote and safeguard environmental health in the community by facilitating and influencing proactive compliance, leading, educating and working with the public and industry locally, regionally, and nationally to maintain compliance. Key responsibilities may include:
- Inquiring into and reporting on applications under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and presenting evidence in committee or Authority hearings
- Investigating complaints and following up on Request's for Service relating to health nuisances such as odour, vermin, noise, substandard housing.
- Carrying out food control plan/national programme verifications and enforcing the Food Act 2014 and associated Regulations
- Enforcing bylaws
- Advising and submitting on Council policy and submissions
About You
The successful applicant will have:
- Current experience as an Alcohol Licensing Inspector and/or Food Verifier
- Proven experience in the environmental health / public health field
- A passion for improving the environmental health of our community
- Current NZ drivers' licence
- The professionalism and communication skills to interact effectively with elected representatives and members of the public
The following is advantageous though not essential:
- Familiarity with the provisions of the Resource Management Act and/or Local Government Act
- Relevant training/certificates
