  • Be responsible for delivering maintenance activities across a diverse portfolio
  • Lead a small team and make a real impact through your leadership.
  • Varied across different facilities, contractors, and teams.

At Hutt City Council, we're all about creating a connected, resilient, and inclusive city where everyone thrives. Right now, we're looking for a motivated Facilities Maintenance Lead to join our team and play a key role in keeping our community spaces safe, welcoming, and well-managed.

About the role

This is a varied and interesting role where no two days are the same. You'll provide strong and authentic leadership to a small team, creating an environment where people feel supported, valued, and able to do their best work. You'll coach, mentor, and guide your team through challenges, while role modelling our values and driving a culture of safety and continuous improvement. You will also oversee the delivery of both reactive and planned maintenance across Council facilities. That means managing contracts, working with contractors and suppliers, and ensuring everything runs smoothly, safely, and to budget. You'll also build collaborative relationships across the organisation, ensuring a high standard of service and minimal disruption to those who use our facilities.

About you

We're looking for someone who brings:

  • Proven experience managing maintenance operations and contracts (public sector or council experience an advantage).
  • A strong track record in leading and developing teams.
  • Excellent skills in stakeholder engagement, communication, and relationship management.
  • Sound knowledge of building maintenance, asset management, and facilities operation.
  • Confidence in contract negotiation, financial management, and work scheduling.

A relevant qualification or significant experience in facilities management would be a plus.

  • Paid birthday leave! Take a day off to celebrate YOU

  • Free pool entry and discounted gym memberships
