About the Role
The primary purpose of the role is to work alongside your colleagues to provide assistance to patients to meet their needs of daily living, comfort and safety needs. Working under the direction and delegation of Nursing and Midwifery, the Health Care Assistant role contributes to supporting safe care for patients and whanau by assisting with delegated activities and supporting the maintenance of a safe, pleasant, functional environment as part of the healthcare delivery team.
This role will be based in the Maternity Services at Whangarei Hospital, working 32 hours per week on rostered shifts.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Maternity Services in Whangarei Hospital is both a primary and secondary facility, providing antenatal clinics, labour and birth care, and inpatient antenatal and postnatal care. Join the Te Kotuku Maternity Unit team and be a part of making an important difference within your community.

About you
We are looking for an individual who is has good communication skills, both written and English, with an ability to manage and prioritise tasks as required. The successful candidate will need to be capable of working well under direction, seek guidance and supervision as needed, with the ability to follow instructions correctly.
- Computer skills
- No experience is necessary - training will be provided on site
- Whilst not essential, a NZQA health care qualification at level 3 or above, current first aid certificate and/or two years' experience in the health sector as an HCA or in a related role is desired
