Job Description

The Enterprise Technology & Software Engineering team connect and build the technology tools that help our group work smarter, faster, and more efficiently.



We achieve this by focusing on the configuration, development and continuous improvement of our Enterprise Technology platforms, our approach is seamless and iterative, prioritising agility and adaptability. By integrating modern engineering approaches and fostering a culture of constant innovation, we ensure that our core building blocks not only support current needs but also scales effortlessly for future growth.

As a Lead DevOps Engineer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of our applications and platforms by leading the design, build, and support of Ampol Group’s digital assets and customer-facing technology. You’ll work closely with business users and our Digital team to deliver solutions that are fit for purpose, resilient, and reliable.

You’ll provide technical leadership across major initiatives including shaping DevOps best practices, guiding Agile squads, and mentoring engineers to uplift capability and deliver lasting value for the Ampol Group

You will have the opportunity to;

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of DevOps Engineers, ensuring our platforms and systems are stable, secure, and continuously improved, while fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Define and implement frameworks, standards, and patterns that uplift DevOps practices across the organisation, driving consistency, reliability, and scalability in how we deliver technology solutions.
  • Oversee the deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimisation of applications within your squads, championing a proactive approach to system health, incident prevention, and rapid recovery.
  • Expand and maintain our CI/CD pipelines through automation, scripting, and reusable patterns that improve delivery speed, reduce risk, and enable teams to confidently release to production.
  • Work across product and engineering to design and deliver resilience, reliable and scalable solutions
  • Shape the future of DevOps at Ampol Group by influencing strategy, introducing best practices, and ensuring our tools and processes evolve alongside our digital transformation.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring to Z

  • Experience leading engineering teams and driving DevOps initiatives across complex solutions with a focus on resiliency
  • Proven people leadership experience, including professional development, mentoring, goal setting on personal/team level, and building a culture of high performance.
  • Champion a ‘Shift Left’ approach, with a focus on continuous improvement and enhanced reliability
  • Extensive Azure experience, or equivalent in GCP or AWS
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines, developing reusable patterns
  • Experience developing and debugging .NET applications C# code/NodeJS/Python
  • Hands-on experience using Terraform to provision and manage cloud infrastructure.
  • Working across multiple capabilities to deliver great experiences

The base salary range for this role $155k - $160k + 15% STI + 5% KS + health insurance and health insurance through Southern Cross.
