Job Description
We are seeking a qualified and passionate Lecturer – Secondary Teaching to join our growing teacher education team. In this role, you’ll support aspiring secondary school teachers across Aotearoa, guiding their academic journey through high-quality teaching, assessment, and professional placement support.
This position is fully remote but does require occasional domestic travel, particularly for practicum assessment and student engagement in our key regions of Christchurch, Tauranga, Taranaki, Auckland, and Northland. Due to this, candidates based in these regions are highly preferred.
As a Lecturer, you’ll play a critical role in preparing the next generation of secondary educators, ensuring they are well-equipped for both the classroom and the wider education landscape in New Zealand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging and effective teaching to secondary teaching students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Support and assess students on professional practice placements (must be a fully registered teacher).
- Provide timely, constructive marking and academic feedback on student assessments.
- Facilitate academic support and mentoring through online platforms, forums, and one-on-one engagement.
- Contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance processes.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with students, associate teachers, and academic colleagues.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and/or research activities.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring a strong academic foundation in education, along with a practical understanding of New Zealand’s secondary teaching landscape. You will also have a genuine commitment to student success and a collegial, professional approach.
To be considered, you must have:
- A qualification in secondary teaching that leads to teacher registration.
- Current full teacher registration with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand (or in the process of renewal).
- Preferably, a Master’s degree in education.
- Experience lecturing in teacher education programmes or in adult education.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence with online teaching platforms and tools.
- Ability to travel domestically where required
