Job Description
An opportunity has arisen for a senior data engineer to step into technical leadership as Practice Lead for our Data & Analytics team. The role combines advanced hands-on data engineering & analytics with responsibility for technical direction, team mentoring, and establishing engineering practices that will scale our data platform.
The position involves serving as the technical authority across our data stack (Snowflake, dbt, Azure Data Factory), working alongside the team to solve complex technical challenges, and creating the frameworks and standards that enable scalable data engineering and analytics.
Key responsibilities include:
- Shape technical architecture: Design and document the patterns and standards for our data platform that the team builds on
- Establish engineering practices: Create standards for data modelling, code quality, testing, and deployment that get adopted across the team
- Tackle complex technical problems: Serve as the technical expert for deep, intricate engineering challenges requiring specialist expertise
- Develop team capabilities: Guide other engineers through code reviews, technical discussions, and hands-on collaboration
- Research and implement new approaches: Evaluate new tools and methods, prototype solutions, and lead adoption of effective technologies
The role suits someone with significant enterprise exposure seeking to broaden their impact while maintaining hands-on technical involvement.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of data engineering and analytics experience with demonstrable track record delivering complex projects in enterprise environments.
- Advanced Snowflake expertise including administration, performance tuning, and cost optimization in production environments.
- Proven dbt proficiency for building and maintaining scalable data transformation workflows.
- Demonstrated experience in dimensional data modelling using industry-standard methodologies such as kimball & star schema design.
- Experience with workflow orchestration platforms including Airflow, Prefect, and Dagster for automating and monitoring data pipeline execution.
- DevOps practices experience including CI/CD pipelines, version control, and production deployment processes.
