About the Role
We have the opportunity available to join the National Public Health Service (NPHS) Prevention team as a Principal Analyst in the Cancer Screening Programmes team. This is a fixed-term, full-time role.
The Principal Analyst is a senior role, requiring strong analytical expertise, relationship skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities. The primary purpose of the role is to develop and deliver analytics-ready data and indicators to monitor the rollout of the renewed national cervical screening programme. You will work closely with the NCSP subject matter experts and data warehouse product owner to scope, define, develop and build reports to monitor the screening programme
You will work with the Snowflake data development analysts to ensure correct underlying data and create data assets that are fit for many uses, to reduce complexity and align data products.
The duration of this fixed-term is: 18-months

About you
You are someone with relevant experience in continuous improvement, or developing and implementing new processes, tools, and frameworks across teams. You're equipped with strong communication skills, with experience in using data to translate complex and technical information into clear and understandable language and analytical insights for non-technical audiences. You feel comfortable working in fast-paced and variable work environments. You're able to apply critical thinking and use sound judgement to develop options, effectively communicate them, and provide valuable advice.
Skills and Experience
- 10-15 years' experience supported with professional and industry qualifications in an area relevant to statistics, data management, data analytics, data science, or other relevant field
- Proven technical analytical skills, including experience with complex reporting
- Deep knowledge and demonstrable experience of programming languages
- Experience working with dbt/SQL to turn complex data into meaningful analytical datasets and indicators
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and plan work so it can be delivered in a timely and effective manner
- Demonstrated ability to work with subject matter experts to define monitoring requirements
- Experience in applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options and provide advice, particularly in leading complex technical / digital product development
- Experience in (or a willingness to learn) implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
- High-quality written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write and talk about technical issues clearly and concisely to non-technical people in plain English
