Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are seeking a passionate and innovative Professional Learning Practice Lead to join the Learning and Teaching Design | Ranga Auaha Ako team within the Education Office.
In this role, you will lead the development and delivery of academic staff professional learning programmes, including the new Teaching Well initiative, ensuring teaching/teaching-adjacent staff are supported to achieve excellence. You will design, deliver, and review high-quality workshops and resources, promote continuous improvement in teaching practice, and work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance curriculum development across the University.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and delivering the University’s professional learning programme, including online and blended workshops.
- Leading the development of the Teaching Well programme.
- Supporting academic staff with curriculum development and innovation.
- Building strong relationships across faculties, departments, and services.
- Soliciting feedback and driving continuous improvement in professional learning.
- Actively supporting the University’s commitments to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity.
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week role on a fixed-term contract for 2 years. The salary range for this role is $136,470 - $139,199 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the team
The Education Office oversees the University’s strategic education initiatives and ensures teaching and learning activities align with Taumata Teitei | Vision 2030 and Strategic Plan 2025. The Learning and Teaching Design | Ranga Auaha Ako team plays a central role in supporting staff across faculties to design and deliver excellent curricula and student experiences. The team also develops scalable resources and provides specialist expertise in curriculum design, professional learning, and digital innovation.
He kōrero mōu | About you
You will be an experienced tertiary educator with a strong background in higher education teaching and curriculum design, and a passion for developing others.
You will also bring:
- A postgraduate qualification (Master’s or Doctorate) in a field relevant to higher education, teaching and learning.
- A proven track record of high-quality teaching in a tertiary (preferably university) environment.
- Experience with online and blended course design and delivery.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, relationship management, and networking abilities.
- The ability to inspire and motivate colleagues from a wide range of disciplines and cultural backgrounds.
- Skills in planning, organising, and delivering to deadlines.
