He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland’s city centre is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation, with billions of dollars’ worth of investment reshaping the way people live, move and connect. At the heart of this change is Auckland Council’s Auckland Urban Development Office, responsible for delivering high-quality public realm projects that create a thriving, resilient and people-focused city.
As a Project Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in bringing these projects to life — from shaping business cases and design through to construction and delivery. You’ll coordinate complex programmes that involve multiple delivery partners across the public and private sectors, ensuring outcomes that reflect best practice and deliver for Aucklanders.
This is an exciting chance to directly contribute to the City Centre Masterplan vision and help build a city that is world-class, sustainable, and uniquely Tāmaki Makaurau.

You bring a balance of technical capability, commercial acumen, and relationship management skills — and can confidently lead consultant teams, manage suppliers and contracts, and oversee project delivery end-to-end.
What sets you apart is your ability to:
- Deliver large-scale infrastructure or public realm projects on time, within budget, and to a high standard
- Navigate procurement, contract negotiation, and governance processes with ease
- Drive strong health & safety standards and embed best practice across all project phases
- Build trusted relationships with stakeholders and partners while keeping customer outcomes front of mind
- Bring strategic thinking to programme interdependencies, risks, and opportunities
A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. engineering, project management, construction, architecture) and at least 5 years’ project management experience are essential. Membership of a relevant professional body is desirable.
You’ll also be committed to growing your capability in te ao Māori, actively supporting Auckland Council’s Māori Responsiveness Plan, and valuing te reo and tikanga in the workplace.
