About the Role - Korero mo te Turanga
As Senior Adviser Risk Management, you'll help embed effective, organisation-wide risk management practices that support confident decision-making across MPI. This central role offers exposure to diverse workstreams and the opportunity to collaborate with teams across the organisation. You'll use your communication and facilitation skills to influence and educate others, while contributing to a strong culture of integrity and ethical conduct.
In this role, your key priorities will be to:
- Support consistent, organisation-wide risk identification and management practices.
- Enhance and maintain MPI's Risk Management Framework and supporting tools.
- Provide regular reporting to inform senior leaders of key risks and mitigations.
- Facilitate workshops and presentations to build risk capability across MPI.
- Bring expertise in programme and project risk management to strengthen delivery outcomes.
- Collaborate with a wide range of business units across MPI's diverse operational areas.
- Influence and support teams to adopt and embed risk methodologies.
Contribute to MPI's mission of protecting what matters to Aotearoa.
About You - Mou
You bring expertise in enterprise risk management, potentially with hands-on experience across programme and project environments. Your ability to guide others in adopting risk methodologies and embedding best practices is supported by strong communication and facilitation skills. You present confidently, influence up, and apply strategic thinking to deliver practical, organisation-wide risk solutions.
You will also bring the following:
- Confidence in guiding others to embed best practices clearly and effectively
- Ability to influence and build relationships at all levels
- Strategic thinking aligned with organisational risk goals
- Experience analysing complex issues with financial implications
- Proven project management and delivery capability
- Confidence working independently with support when needed
About the Team - Mo to matou Ropu
This role sits within MPI's Central Risk Management team, reporting to the Manager, Risk Management, based in Wellington. You'll be part of a small, supportive team that includes two experienced Senior Advisers, both of whom have deep institutional knowledge and are well-versed in the full risk management cycle.
Together, the team is responsible for maintaining MPI's Risk Management Policy, Framework, and associated guidance documents.
We work closely with business units across the organisation to support consistent, effective risk management practices. The role offers exposure to a wide range of risks across MPI's diverse operational areas, providing variety and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
We value collaboration, open communication, and practical problem-solving. You'll be well supported through a structured induction process, including a buddy system and introductions to key contacts in the business units you'll work with. Our team is committed to sharing knowledge and helping each other succeed.
