Job Description

We’re looking for a adaptable, delivery-focused Senior Health & Safety Specialist to join our First Principles team. In this role, you’ll work as part of a small team leading the design and implementation of health and safety initiatives that are innovative, practical, and aligned with best practice. You’ll be a key driver of continuous improvement, using your project management expertise and writing skills to deliver solutions that are both strategic and user-friendly.
Working closely with the H&S operations team, you'll:
Lead the end-to-end delivery of H&S projects (first up Critical Risk)—scoping, planning, executing, and evaluating initiatives that align with business goals and legislative requirements.
Develop plain-English policies, procedures, and communications that are easy to understand and apply across the business.
Collaborate across all levels of the organisation to embed new initiatives and support change management.
Use analytics to inform decision-making, support reporting, and contribute to executive and board-level papers.
This role can be based at our Hamilton, Bell Block or Christchurch office.
Qualifications
Mōu (about you)
As well as being someone who brings passion and good energy to everything you do, you will have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g H&S, business, communications)
- 5+ years experience working in the health and safety space.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, able to iengage and influence at different levels.
- Proven experience in project management and policy/procedure writing.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and analytical skills.
- Experience pivoting to changing business needs and priorities.
It'd be great if you have formal training or certification in project management, as well as experience in design thinking and strategy.
