Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
Join one of Aotearoa New Zealand's leading engineering faculties and make a lasting impact in Computer Science and Software Engineering. As a Senior Tutor, you will play a pivotal role in the academic development of our students and the operational success of the Department. You will deliver engaging and effective teaching, contribute to curriculum support, assessment and pastoral care, and actively participate in departmental service and outreach.
Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining resources (course, lab and assessment material), tutoring, supporting students with Software Engineering tools (software development environments, source code version control, continuous integration, etc.) and marking assessment for our undergraduate (and potentially post-graduate) courses, as well as supervision, mentoring and coordination of casual tutors. Candidates must be able to assist with the delivery of our undergraduate Software Engineering group project courses.
You will work closely with academic colleagues to ensure our programmes are cutting-edge and provide a stimulating, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages student success and intellectual independence.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:
- strong software engineering skills, including: Processes and practices (e.g. requirements gathering, testing strategies, code reviews), technologies and tools (e.g. Git, CI/CD pipelines), agile development methods and frameworks (e.g. Scrum, Kanban), object-oriented analysis, design, and programming (e.g. UML, Java), and web technologies (e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, backend frameworks)
- a Master's degree in a relevant discipline or a tertiary teaching qualification
- demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, student-focused teaching and assessment in a tertiary environment
- strong understanding of pedagogical approaches that support diverse learners
- confidence in using and integrating innovative teaching technologies
- ability to foster critical and analytical thinking in students
- a student-focused, mana-enhancing approach to support and pastoral care
- proven reputation or developing expertise in a discipline-relevant area
- experience contributing to academic programme development and quality assurance
- ability to actively participate in university service, outreach, and promotional activities
- evidence of reflective practice and ongoing professional development

This role falls under the Academic and Associated Staff Collective Agreement and the salary range for this position (depending on skills and experience) is: 1.01 ($68,880) - 4.04 ($121,262).
