Formed in 2020, Neptune Pacific Line acquired Pacific Direct Line, bringing together two of the South Pacific’s top shipping and logistics companies to support the full supply chain of our customers in the region. NPDL is part of The Wonderful Company headquartered in the USA (including Fiji Water).
NPDL operates 11 containerships, moving +240k TEU between AU, NZ and the Pacific Islands, as well as the USA. We have strong partnerships with PIL, CMA, MSK and other lines, moving cargo across 25 customer destinations in 16 countries.
Job Description
This is a high-impact role within the Group Equipment team, responsible for the strategic and operational control of empty container movements across our network. We are recruiting for one position focused on Steering & Fleet Optimisation and two positions focused on Regional Performance.
Each role requires a sharp focus on planning, performance, cost management, and operational delivery, ensuring equipment flows are aligned to business needs, customer demand, and financial targets.
Core Responsibilities (All Roles)
- Execute Group Equipment initiatives and provide system and operational support to ensure implementation across the network.
- Ensure accuracy of reporting and system data integrity across all equipment movements.
- Identify issues early and support country teams to resolve them and implement processes to avoid reoccurrence.
- Provide analytical and tactical input to support decisions and improve performance.
- Lead cost awareness for your portfolio. Drive cost validation and support initiatives to reduce unnecessary spend.
- Support system and process improvements, contributing to digital uplift and consistent ways of working.
- Act as a systems super user, maintaining system integrity and supporting timely, accurate updates to drive container flow decisions.
- Provide cover across portfolios to ensure continuity of operations.
Portfolio 1: Regional Equipment Coordination
- Lead and report on equipment performance across assigned countries—manage vessel reconciliation, CW data validation, and dwell time tracking to ensure visibility and accuracy.
- Drive agency compliance and performance, tracking KPIs and closing performance gaps through proactive engagement and follow-up.
- Manage port-level flows, using data to support decision-making and ensure container supply aligns with trade and operational needs.
- Oversee stock levels and empty allocations by service, ensuring optimal utilisation and identifying imbalances early.
- Support accurate processing of load and pre-arrival reconciliations, issue redelivery instructions, and ensure documentation meets all biosecurity and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure visibility and validation of costs, working with country teams to process transactions accurately and on time.
- Resolve operational exceptions—including lost containers, booking issues, and customer queries—escalating where appropriate to minimise impact.
- Execute steering plans in alignment with commercial and operational teams, adjusting for service changes and trade priorities.
Portfolio 2: Steering & Fleet Optimisation
- Analyse forecast vs. actual supply/demand; identify gaps and work with Trade, Commercial, and Operations to adjust.
- Lead steering plan execution and ensure regional alignment on repositioning priorities.
- Track and report on fleet utilisation, off-hire caps, and repositioning costs.
- Collaborate with Fleet Manager on sublease decisions and supply optimisation across the Pacific.
- Provide regular performance insights to drive fleet efficiency and strategic outcomes.
- Support group-level equipment initiatives and drive improvement in forecast accuracy.
- Act as the lead for Key customer equipment planning, ensuring service delivery across all carriers.
- Support the Equipment Manager and EQM with dwell reduction efforts and regional optimisation, including Fiji and Micronesia coordination.
- Provide regular reporting and performance insights to support decision-making and drive strategic fleet efficiency.
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring:
- Ideally 2+ years in a supply chain, shipping, or logistics coordination role, less experienced candidates with strong capability will be considered.
- Forecasting or planning experience and an ability to translate numbers into practical action.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills. Comfortable with Excel and system data.
- Ability to prioritise and respond quickly in a high-paced environment.
- Clear and confident communicator. Able to engage across geographies and roles, with a solutions-focused mindset.
- High personal accountability—you follow through, flag issues early, and don’t wait to be asked.
- Experience with databases. Cargowise is an advantage.
