Silviculture and forestry workers perform a variety of duties related to
reforestation and to the management, improvement and conservation of
forest lands.
- Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed.
Applicants must have the following as per employer’s requirement:
- Applicants must be physically fit and willing to learn.
- Applicants must pass pre-employment drug test and have no criminal record.
- Must have a driver licence

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
PRUNNING:
- Using sophisticated climbing and rigging techniques, cut away
dead or excess branches from trees to improve appearance,
health, and value of tree. - Prune or treat trees using handsaws, hand pruners, clippers,
and power pruners. - Climb trees, using climbing hooks and belts, or climb ladders to
gain access to work areas
PLANTING:
- Assess site, select seedlings and dig planting hole at
predetermined spaced interval to plant tree using manual
planting tools, place seedling in hole and pack soil around
plant, using foot or planting tool.
THINNING:
- Operate power thinning saw to thin and space trees in
reforestation areas. - Operate chain saw to thin young forest
stands.
SPRAYING:
- Control weeds and undergrowth in regenerating forest stands
using manual tools and chemicals. - Spray trees to treat diseased or unhealthy trees, including
mixing chemicals and calibrating spray equipment. - Prepare chemicals for work application.
FIREFIGHTING:
- Complete fire training, firefighting reports and maintain
firefighting equipment. - Dig trenches, cut trees, pump water on burning areas to fight
forest fires under direction of fire suppression officer or forestry
technician.
OTHER:
- Perform other silviculture duties such as tree pulling, firewood,
assisting in planting surveys and marking trees for subsequent
operations. - Drive trucks or other vehicles to, or at, work sites.
- Attend Health and Safety meetings.
- Attend Fire training.
