About the Role

This senior nursing position provides specialist input into the Cardiac Care service, supporting patient-centred care, education, and advice for those living with complex cardiac conditions. The role involves delivering education for inpatients, providing follow-up within the Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic, and working closely with patients and whānau to promote effective self-care and recovery.

As a Specialty Clinical Nurse, you will bring advanced knowledge to coordinate care, offer specialist advice, and act as a role model for service navigation and equity-focused practice. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, Iwi Hauora partners, and community health providers, the position supports both acute and long-term care pathways, with a strong focus on reducing barriers to access and improving outcomes for Māori.

This is a leadership role that supports health system transformation, aligned with Te Pae Tata – Interim New Zealand Health Plan and Te Toi Ahorangi.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Cardiac Care Service provides comprehensive care across the Bay of Plenty, serving patients at both Tauranga and Whakatāne Hospitals. The team works within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where nurses, doctors, physiologists, and other health professionals come together to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care. Based in a region know for its stunning beaches, warm climate, and vibrant communities, the role offers both professional satisfaction and lifestyle balance.

About you

The ideal candidate will be a compassionate, adaptable nurse with extensive experience in cardiac and a strong commitment to service innovation and equity. The role requires excellent communication skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to build meaningful connections with patients, whānau, and colleagues across both hospital sites.

What you will bring:

  • Current NZNC registration and Annual Practicing Certificate.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cardiac nursing practice.
  • Proven experience in service development, innovation, or quality improvement.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to culturally safe practice and application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload with professionalism and integrity.
