Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kaiārahi Eke Panuku - Student Success Adviser for Te Wāhanga a Manaia - Faculty of Science and Engineering and Te Pukenga Wai - Faculty of Education, Health, and Psychological Sciences based at the Kelburn Campus as part of Tītoko - Centre for Student Success. The Student Success Adviser provides holistic student advice and high-quality responsive service to support student academic success and enhance the student experience within the framework of the University’s academic policies, regulations, and operating procedures.
Key responsibilities:
- Advising an assigned student cohort group using best practice case management principles.
- Identifying barriers facing students by utilising equity, diversity and inclusion policies, practices, and behaviours that lead to student success.
- Completing student administration functions such as processing enrolment applications including compensation passes and requests for waiver and/or exemptions, supporting letters, and discipline specific requests as required.
- Providing ongoing interaction with students throughout the trimester, particularly at key momentum points, and monitoring to ensure early awareness of students who are facing particularly significant barriers to success.
- Developing and maintaining a good understanding of relevant University regulations, policies, procedures, and services.

- The ability to remain calm under pressure and thrive working with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Key requirements:
- Tertiary degree or comparable professional experience in a similar role.
- Demonstrated client-centred approach and service delivery skills.
- Cultural competency – the ability to work effectively and understand the different needs across a diverse range of people.
- Proven ability to proactively navigate and manage issues to a successful resolution.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Sound understanding of academic statutes and student academic processes.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and manage a busy workload.
- An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in an educational context.
