Job Description


Are you a talented and ambitious university student studying Business & Finance (or similar) looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect internship opportunity for you to join OceanaGold, working at our Macraes Mine in Otago.

This paid internship opportunity will run from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant) and work as part of our talented Continuous Improvement (CI) team, on-site at Macraes. Working a roster of 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off, 7am – 4:30pm daily.

What will you be doing?

  • Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members
  • Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
  • Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work will involve:

  • Supporting existing CI Uplift Initiatives: Assist in tracking and reporting progress across the Macraes CI pipeline
  • Process Mapping & Insight Formation: Participate in CI assessments and workshops. Identify bottlenecks using tools such as Value Stream Mapping (VSM) used to establish the 2026 CI programme
  • Complete the evaluation and development of key site improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • Full Class 1 Drivers licence (ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred)
  • Available across Nov-February 2025/26
  • In your 2nd last or final year of study in Business & Finance (or similar)
  • Have somewhere to stay in Dunedin, Oamaru and surrounds, and happy to bus to site daily
  • Curious and inquisitive mindset with a passion for problem solving
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and visualisation platforms is a plus
