te tūranga | About the Role

In this role, you’ll work alongside another Support Worker to provide care and support to six individuals in their 50s at Bev Morrisey Service, located at the main Hōhepa Campus.

  • Julie enjoys spending time in her own familiar environment, especially with her beloved cat, Cottontail. She loves going out for lunch—KFC is a favourite—and finds joy in colouring in. Julie thrives when surrounded by people and values connection in her own space.
  • Christopher has a part time role at Hōhepa and is actively involved in many activities and events. He’s intelligent, has a great sense of humour, and is deeply connected to his church community. Christopher is known for his warm greetings—always saying “hello, how are you?” to everyone he meets. He’s also part of the LEAP programme.
  • Hal absolutely loves all things circus-related and has a strong sense of community at the local library, where he knows the staff well. He’s very close with his family and has a special bond with Julie’s cat, Cottontail. Hal is always smiling and brings joy wherever he goes. He’s also involved in LEAP.
  • Miriam is creative and enjoys beadwork and stitch work. She’s very close to her family and often goes on campervan holidays. On weekends, she spends one-on-one time with staff, going out to cafés and indulging in her love of shopping.
  • Margaret has been part of Hōhepa Canterbury since its very beginning—over 60 years! She has a deep love for classical music, operas, and live performances. Margaret enjoys her weekly one-on-one time and is known for her intelligence, especially in spelling and public speaking. She takes pride in helping keep Hōhepa beautiful by contributing to the upkeep of the grounds.
  • Steve is very close to his family and speaks with them daily. Despite having a vision impairment, he lives life to the fullest—enjoying music, concerts, going to the gym, and swimming. He’s part of the LEAP programme and enjoys using technology to stay connected with others.

You will be energetic, empathetic and able to work alongside this person focussing on creating a life of rich and diverse experiences while being able to read situations, problem solve and apply boundaries or offer space. Daily tasks include supporting with daily routines while encouraging independence to develop skills and personal growth. You will have the confidence to support personal cares, cooking, medication administration, and household tasks. You will be passionate about supporting and extending people’s ability to access and be part of their wider community. If you are looking for a new challenge this could be the opportunity for you.

This position's salary scale is set by pay equity and dependant on qualification level, pays between $23.84 and $29.10 per hour.

  • Sunday to Wednesday 7am to 3pm

Your aroha and approach is what really matters at Hōhepa – previous experience is not a prerequisite because we provide on-the-job training.
