Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is looking for a passionate and dedicated Teacher Aide (Kaiāwhina mō te akoranga) to support an ākonga (student) in their home-based learning in Sunnyhills. This part-time role for 13 hours per week is an opportunity to play a key role in a professional team, providing tailored learning support that empowers ākonga to reach their goals.

This is a rewarding and flexible opportunity where you'll make a meaningful impact on a student's learning journey.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting ākonga with their learning, as outlined in their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Assisting Kaiako (teachers) in delivering lessons and adapting materials to meet individual learning needs.
  • Providing one-on-one or small group support to help ākonga achieve their learning goals.
  • Supporting ākonga to engage in online learning and use assistive technology where required.
  • Encouraging positive engagement by fostering a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitoring progress, providing feedback to Kaiako, and keeping accurate records.

Ko koe tēnei | About you

We're looking for someone who brings energy, empathy, and adaptability to engage with our ākonga and support their learning.

You'll be great in this role if you have:

  • Experience as a Teacher Aide or in a similar role supporting ākonga with special educational needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills to connect with ākonga, Kaiako, and whānau.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a genuine passion for supporting students to succeed.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Confidence using a computer and online learning tools.
  • A commitment to cultural responsiveness and supporting diverse learners.

If you don't meet every requirement but are passionate about supporting ākonga in their learning, we'd still love to hear from you!

What we offer

At Te Kura, we're committed to providing a supportive, flexible work environment where our people thrive. You'll benefit from:

  • A competitive hourly rate ranging from $26.59 to $33.23, aligned with the Teacher Aide Pay Equity Settlement (as per the Teacher Aide Work Matrix). The final rate will be determined based on ākonga learning needs and your unique combination of experience and skills.
