Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for Teacher’s to join Early Childhood Education, University Kids on a permanent, full-time contract.
The role of teacher is to contribute actively to the day to day running of the centre, to ensure the provision of high-quality care and education. The Teacher must work in the best interests of the University.
The Early Childhood Education Services have a strategic and operational plan which is aligned to the University’s Strategic Plan. The teacher will help the Early Childhood Services achieve its goals by providing high quality and accessible early childhood care and education for the children of VUW students and staff in order to support their success during their time at the University.
Key requirements:
- Keep children safe from physical, psychological harm.
- Be proactive in maintaining a safe environment and taking prompt and appropriate action to remove hazards and promote well-being.
- Demonstrate excellent self-control and coping strategies, particularly when working in demanding situations and when under pressure.
- Provide excellent customer service by actively looking for ways to exceed parental expectations and represent exceptional value for money.
- Form warm relationships with families, taking care to ensure families receive comparable time / access to teachers.
- Show a high degree of initiative and common sense.
- Have well developed written and spoken communication skills.
- Take responsibility for areas of the centre, curriculum and the operational needs of the centre as delegated by the manager/head teacher.
- Actively participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the learning programme.

We are seeking a motivated individual who takes initiative and builds strong, positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues within Early Childhood Services.
To succeed in this role, you will need excellent interpersonal skills, a keen eye for detail, and strong self-management abilities. This is a busy and challenging position, but also highly rewarding and engaging for someone with the right temperament and passion for early childhood education.
Key requirements:
- A Diploma of Teaching (ECE) or equivalent as assessment by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.
- Current full certification with the New Zealand Education Council. This must be maintained to remain employed with us as a teacher. For new graduates a provisional certification classification is acceptable.
- Current first aid certificate.
- Good basic computing skills.
