An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Building Consents Processing team as a Team Leader. We are currently seeking a qualified, experienced and customer-focused person with a background in the construction industry to join our processing team.
As the Team Leader Building Processing, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of our building consents processing team, ensuring delivery aligns with the Building Act and other relevant regulations. You’ll be responsible for guiding the development process, assessing building consent applications, and maintaining accreditation standards to help minimise Council’s liability exposure. This is a hands-on leadership role with the opportunity to drive continuous improvement and contribute to Napier’s future growth.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Building Consents Processing function, guiding and supporting the team to deliver high-quality service
- Oversee the interpretation and implementation of the Building Act and associated regulations to ensure compliance and best practice
- Ensure development activities across Napier City align with statutory requirements and Council policies
- Assess building consent applications and associated documentation with accuracy and efficiency
- Maintain or exceed Building Consent Authority accreditation standards to safeguard Council from liability and uphold professional credibility
He kōrero mōhou - About You
- Team management and leadership skills
- Competency assessed to a minimum of Com 2 under the national competency assessment system\
- At least five years building control experience
- A qualification that complies with Regulation 18 of the Accreditation Regulations
- Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a substantial workload to meet statutory deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate positively with a wide range of people
- A strong commitment to positive customer service

This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) in Napier CBD. Salary dependent on skills and experience.
