About the role:
We are on the lookout for a skilled and experienced Technical Leader – Steam & Recovery to join our dedicated and high-performing Technical Team. Reporting to the Technical & Environmental Manager, this key leadership role will see you lead a small team of engineers focused on optimising the performance, efficiency, and continuous improvement of the mill’s steam and co-generation, energy use, and chemical recovery systems.
You will work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and supply chain teams to solve problems, deliver process improvements, and ensure these critical systems support the mill’s financial, environmental, and production goals. It is a role that combines day-to-day technical problem-solving with long-term planning, innovation, and leadership.
A typical day will see you:

- Coaching and supporting a small team of engineers to grow capability and drive a culture of innovation.
- Using data and engineering insight to solve complex process problems and deliver measurable results.
- Driving energy efficiency through the Mill Energy Improvement Plan and key cost-centre initiatives.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to deliver impactful projects.
- Bringing fresh ideas from suppliers, research institutions, or industry best practices into the mill.
You will have a degree in Engineering, Process Technology or a related discipline, and a strong background in process or industrial operations. Experience with steam or energy systems will be a big advantage, as will your ability to lead technical teams, deliver improvement projects, and use data to guide smart decisions. If you’ve worked in the pulp and paper industry, that’s great—but it’s not essential.
