As the Technical Specialist - Fire, you will lead the fire safety strategy and provide expert technical advice across K inga Ora projects. You will ensure that fire design requirements are effectively met for a wide range of property types and customer needs. A key part of your role will involve analysing risks, resolving specification conflicts, and proposing innovative, practical solutions to maintain compliance and safety.
In this pivotal role, you'll be the go-to expert, providing practical fire safety advice, interpreting fire specifications, and guiding project teams to deliver safe, compliant housing solutions. You will also be responsible for developing and delivering training modules that build capability both internally and externally. Collaboration is essential, and you will work closely with Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ), the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), and other professional bodies to align with industry standards. Staying current with the latest advancements in fire safety technology and best practices will be crucial to continuously improving K inga Ora's fire safety strategies.
You'll work closely with our Special Programmes and Planned Programmes teams, ensuring fire design requirements are seamlessly integrated into our projects. Your expertise will also support maintenance teams and frontline staff through training, guidance, and hands-on problem-solving.
Ng pumanawatanga ou - What you will bring
- Tertiary qualification in engineering, construction, property maintenance and upgrades or related field.
- New Zealand Certificate in Fire Protection Systems Technology (inspections / Level4)
- Minimum 5 years' experience in fire compliance within the construction sector.
- Deep understanding of NZ building code (Clauses C1 - C6)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
- Proven ability to lead, influence, and build strong stakeholder relationships.
- Sound understanding of asset management and building regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- A full, clean current NZ driver's licence.
