Te Momo Tūranga | Contract: Permanent, Full Time

Te Wāhi | Where: Auckland or Wellington

Te Pūtake | Why we’re hiring: We’re stepping into our next chapter, aspiring toward 80% fibre uptake across the motu by 2030. With our new strategy providing the roadmap for what we’re working to achieve and how we’ll get there, opportunities are emerging as we seek to expand our capability and talent in new and different spaces.

Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity

Are you ready to play a pivotal role in managing and optimising utility services across a national infrastructure portfolio? Chorus is seeking a technically skilled and strategically minded Utilities Manager to take ownership of our electricity and broader utility portfolio. In this role, you’ll be responsible for overseeing budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation, while ensuring accurate and timely utility data management. You’ll drive energy-saving initiatives, develop long-term strategies to reduce costs and emissions, and act as the subject matter expert across all things utilities-helping us deliver on our sustainability goals and regulatory obligations.

You’ll manage end-to-end utility relationships, including contractual compliance with key providers, as well as liaising with internal teams to ensure seamless integration of energy services. As the first point of contact for electricity and utility-related matters, your problem-solving skills will shine-from resolving metering issues to implementing smart energy technologies. You'll track and analyse usage metrics, lead energy optimisation projects, support investment cases, and deliver regular reporting to both regulatory bodies and senior stakeholders.

This is more than a technical role-it's an opportunity to lead meaningful change. You’ll work closely with internal teams, external suppliers, and local authorities to ensure service excellence, legal compliance, and continuous improvement. With your expertise, you'll shape our utility strategy, keep us ahead of industry trends, and make a tangible impact on Chorus’ operational efficiency and environmental footprint.

Ō Wheako, ō Pūkenga | Your Experience

We’re looking for a strategic and technically adept individual who brings a strong background in energy and utility management, with the capability to lead projects, manage suppliers, and deliver results in a complex, multi-site environment. You’ll be someone who combines analytical insight with practical experience and excels in stakeholder engagement across diverse teams.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in building services, facilities or energy management, with a strong focus on utility oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage end-to-end utility-related projects, from planning through to delivery.
  • Proven experience in managing supplier and vendor relationships, including performance monitoring and contract compliance.
  • Background in overseeing utility operations across complex and diverse property portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of utility infrastructure, including system operation and maintenance. Knowledge of the telecommunications and electrical distribution environment, along with relevant power and building services standards. Practical expertise in electricity and energy management is essential.
  • Proficient in budgeting, financial tracking, and reporting, with a clear understanding of utility cost management.
  • Able to interpret utility data, identify inefficiencies, and develop practical solutions.
  • Skilled in engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and presenting technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Experienced in managing multiple projects simultaneously, delivering results on time and within budget.
  • Familiar with relevant compliance requirements, legislation, and safety standards in the utilities sector.
  • Capable of designing and implementing strategies to improve service delivery, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Adept at managing complex stakeholder networks and negotiating shared outcomes that align with business objectives.

Not sure that you meet all the requirements? If you still think you could be great for the role, we encourage you to apply!
