About the role
Applications are invited for the position of Weighbridge Technician based at the North Weighbridge (Glenbrook), as part of the Primary Operations team at NZ Steel.
Reporting to the Aggregates Manager, this is primarily an operations role, including product sampling and testing, operating the weighbridge, interaction internal and external stakeholder, administration, housekeeping and other operational support tasks. Your working day will be split between office duties and outside activities, year-round in all weather conditions. A good level of personal fitness is required, as the roll includes heavy lifting and walking on uneven surfaces.
The Weighbridge Technician plays a critical role in the production process, with testing being required on most products before they can be sold.
This is a day shift position, working from 8:30am till 5:00pm Monday to Friday. Some overtime may be required.
About the person
We require a self-motivated Weighbridge Technician, to join the North Weighbridge and Primary Operations team, based at Glenbrook.
This position requires a person who is able to communicate clearly and effectively – sometimes in a noisy environment – with both internal NZ Steel employees and the general public.
Because of the importance of our testing, to ensure our products met the required standards and reporting regime, this person needs to have an uncompromising attention to detail and be prepared to check and double check test results when required; sometimes under pressure.
As the weighbridge can be a very busy and challenging environment, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining safety standards and driving continuous improvement.
It is preferable that the successful candidate will have a good understanding of Laboratory sampling and testing (preferably aggregate) and/or have played a lead role in a Total Quality Management environment.
The successful applicant will have:
- Good physical fitness, manual handling of samples is required in this position (up to 15kg's)
- An ability to get along with others and help foster a productive and effective workplace environment
- Excellent communication skills and computer literacy
- Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Mechanical aptitude
- A commitment to working safely and to work productively with minimum supervision
- Previous Laboratory experience is advantageous
- The ability to learn the required skills on the job and produce high quality work in a timely manner.
