Our region includes Manawatu, Horowhenua and Otaki districts on the western coast to the Tararua district on the eastern coast. With a capacity of over 380 beds, we provide secondary care to an urban population of 81,000 and over 200,000 in the catchment area. MidCentral is an excellent place to begin or continue your professional career in an engaging and supportive environment.

The Opportunity

MidCentral District can offer the successful candidate an excellent environment to grow their confidence and independence in their general anaesthetic practice whilst learning new skills.

As a teaching hospital we provide specialist services in Upper GI, ENT, urology and oncology, bringing a range of complex surgeries, with a wide range of obstetric and paediatric caseloads.

There are currently nine (9) theatres, two (2) procedure rooms and a cardiac lab.

The Team

  • We are a diverse, supportive and collegial department with regular social events.
  • The department has 24 full time Consultant Anaesthetists.
  • A group of consultants interested in difficult airway management with innovative techniques (e.g., Jet ventilation, THRIVE).
  • Regional anaesthesia is encouraged in our practice with most anaesthetists proficient in ultrasound guided nerve blocks.
  • There is a regular CPEX and multidisciplinary high-risk peri-operative clinic for consultants with an interest and experience in assessment and optimisation of higher risk patients and procedures.
