Help Protect the Integrity of New Zealand's Government Records

E nga mana, e nga reo, e nga karangatanga maha o nga hau e wha, nau mai, haere mai.
Greetings to the many authorities, voices, and experts of the world.

We are looking for a capable and principled Archives Regulator to join our Regulatory Systems group, helping to safeguard the integrity, accessibility, and accountability of New Zealand's public and local authority records.

In this role, you will assess compliance, assist with audits, examine potential breaches of the Public Records Act, and provide expert advice to improve recordkeeping practices across the public sector. You will also play an important part in stakeholder engagement, supporting regulatory enforcement processes, and contributing to the development of national regulatory policies and strategies.

Your work will help ensure that government information is managed responsibly, is accessible when needed, and is protected for future generations.

What we're looking for

We're seeking a motivated regulatory professional with:

  • Demonstrated experience working in regulatory systems, auditing, compliance, or information management
  • Familiarity with the public sector environment, including government systems and structures
  • The ability to analyse evidence, assess compliance, and recommend effective regulatory actions
  • Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to engage with regulated organisations and external partners
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and sound reasoning
  • A good understanding of digital information management and the challenges of digital records
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to supporting the Crown's obligations

You will be someone who can work both independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities effectively, and bring a high standard of professionalism to regulatory operations.
