Mō te tūranga | About the Role
As an Area Manager you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the success of your team across your region. Reporting to the Head of Relationships Business, you’ll lead a high-performing team of Business Managers and Senior Business Managers where you’ll champion a collaborative, customer-first culture, working closely with other Westpac leaders in your area to deliver seamless, impactful banking experiences.
With responsibility for Takanini, Hamilton, Tauranga, and Rotorua, you’ll be expected to travel regularly across the region to support your team and drive collaboration and performance.
Your key responsibilities include:
  • Leading and coaching your team to deliver exceptional customer outcomes and strong financial performance.
  • Drive employee engagement, capability development, and performance.
  • Embed robust risk management practices and ensure high-quality customer interactions.
  • Champion industry specialisation to differentiate in the market.
  • Build strong community and market presence through local engagement.
  • Support process improvement and digitisation initiatives.
  • Foster a ‘one-team’ culture, aligned with Westpac’s strategic goals.
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
You’re an experienced leader who knows how to inspire and mobilise geographically spread teams. You bring a strong understanding of business banking and a passion for delivering value to customers. We are looking for someone with:
  • Proven leadership experience ideally across regional teams and a track record of motivating successful teams.
  • Ability to successfully lead a geographically dispersed team using remote collaboration tools.
  • Deep understanding of business customers and their financial needs.
  • 7+ years in banking, ideally within Business Banking.
  • Experience in Relationship Management will be advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of Westpac’s products and the ability to structure complex lending solutions.
  • Solid understanding of pricing, compliance, credit risk, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Confidence in building networks and communicating with influence.
