Assistant Registrar
Waitangi Tribunal Unit, Wellington
The Waitangi Tribunal is a permanent commission of inquiry charged with making recommendations on claims brought by Māori relating to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. It holds a unique place in the New Zealand constitutional framework.
Te Haeata/The Opportunity
The Assistant Registrar supports the Waitangi Tribunal by performing registrarial functions that are essential to the effective operation of the organisation. These functions include:
- the registration of claims;
- preparing Legal Aid application reports; and
- providing drafting assistance and advice in relation to legal and procedural issues.

To be successful in the role you will have:
- an LLB, or advanced study towards an LLB, is essential for this position
- an understanding of Waitangi Tribunal jurisprudence
- experience working with Māori groups and organisations
- well-developed organisation, planning and writing skills, particularly legal research, critique and analysis
- an understanding of Te Reo Maori and Tikanga Maori or a desire to be able to develop in this area.
Experience working with judiciary and a commitment to further develop your knowledge in Te Reo and Tikanga Māori will be an advantage.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $66,066 and $90,008 based on skills and experience.
