Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI) is a collaborative programme based at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland. It focuses on applying genomics and data-driven approaches to improve diagnosis, treatment, and care. PMI is hosted by the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) in partnership with the Auckland Academic Health Alliance, working at the interface of research and clinical practice.

We are seeking a Bioinformatician on a 3-year fixed term to partner with key stakeholders inside and outside the University of Auckland, contributing to the clinical and research genomics work of the Precision Medicine Initiative.

You will support the development, implementation, and routine delivery of accredited clinical pipelines, and contribute to research projects through the design and execution of reproducible workflows. The role includes quality assurance and interpretation of sequencing data, often linked to clinical metadata. There may also be opportunities to contribute to variant curation and the preparation of material for clinical multi-disciplinary meetings, including molecular tumour boards.

While the focus of this role is research and clinical delivery, there is scope for involvement in research projects aligned with PMI’s translational goals.

We are looking for someone with strong core bioinformatics skills and a solid understanding of molecular biology or clinical genomics. The ideal candidate will be as comfortable interpreting the significance of genomic data as they are running the pipeline that produced it.

This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, 36-month fixed term contract. The salary range for this position is $110,100 - $136,100 per annum, depending on skills and experience
