Downer holds a long-term Asset Management and Facilities Management contract with the Department of Corrections (DoC) and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). This Contract involves the proactive management and delivery of facilities services to a national portfolio including 15 prisons, 100 courts and 157 community correctional sites.
We’re seeking a detail-oriented and safety-focused BWOF Inspector to play a vital role in ensuring the integrity of critical safety systems within our buildings. In this key position, you’ll be responsible for the inspection, testing, and certification of systems to ensure full compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and standards.
Your work will provide an objective, expert assessment of system functionality—ensuring not only regulatory compliance but also the safety and wellbeing of building occupants. This role is essential in verifying ongoing system maintenance, identifying any faults or defects, and ensuring prompt corrective action is taken.
In addition, the BWOF Inspector will:
Stay up to date with evolving building compliance regulations and provide expert guidance to ensure all safety systems meet relevant codes and legal requirements.
Conduct thorough inspections and testing of specified building systems to verify operational effectiveness and compliance, ensuring the safety of all occupants.
Prepare detailed IQP (Independent Qualified Person) reports, clearly identifying any defects or non-compliance issues and outlining required corrective actions.
Lead initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of inspection, testing, and maintenance procedures—promoting best practices and continuous improvement across all safety-related processes.
Deliver expert advice and training to internal teams, helping to build organisational capability and awareness around life safety systems and compliance standards.

Certified as an Individual Qualified Person for the following systems: required - SS14.2, SS15.2, SS15.3, SS15.4 and SS15.5; Optionally also - SS3.2, SS4, SS7.
Experience in the inspection, testing and maintenance of the following specified systems: SS14.2, SS15.2, SS15.3, SS15.4, SS15.5.
In-depth understanding of relevant standards, regulations, and specified systems, with strong technical ability in inspection and reporting tools.
Proven ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to a wide range of stakeholders, including contractors, operations teams, and Territorial Authorities.
Exceptional attention to detail and a track record of producing accurate, clear, and actionable compliance reports.
Capable of managing multiple inspections and meeting reporting deadlines efficiently and consistently.
Committed to acting as an impartial authority to uphold safety and compliance without external influence.
Builds strong stakeholder relationships and shows a willingness to learn, adapt, and continuously improve.
