About the Role

The Critical Care Expansion Programme has committed funding to support and increase Allied Professions workforce capacity and capability within critical care settings by funding Educators for Allied Professions within the Central Region.

This role will provide support to Occupational Therapists working in critical care across the Central Region, to extend skills and knowledge working with patients and their whānau.

About the Team/Service Location

The Allied Professions Critical Care Educator team works across the Central region, supporting clinicians working in critical care across all 6 of the Hospital sites. Educators work primarily to support the upskilling and capability building of clinicians in their own profession, but also provide interdisciplinary teaching to other allied, nursing, and medical colleagues as required.

About you

You will be be an experienced Occupational Therapist, with a current annual practicing certificate and a minimum of 5 years’ experience. You will have proven skills in managing patients in the critical care environment, as well as in supporting others’ development through a variety of teaching and training approaches. You will have outstanding communication skills and a solid understanding of clinical education. You will work alongside central region Occupational Therapists and their professional leadership, to develop a workplan that advances practice Occupational Therapy practice in critical care. You will also work alongside the Allied Professions educator team centrally, and with other Occupational Therapy educators nationally, to ensure strategic alignment and cohesion of workplans, and to define and record data metrics and reporting to support this programme of work. You will have strong relationship building skills and will work collaboratively with both the allied professions educator team, as well as nursing educators and medical colleagues to identify opportunities for collaboration. You will be cognizant of the importance of equity for patients, whānau and for your team. You will be expected to travel regularly to support ongoing relationships and learning across the region.
