Join the New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa as a Change Specialist for a Technology Change project
Are you a change management professional ready to lead a nationally significant transformation? The New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa is seeking a Change Specialist on a fixed term contract until 30th June 2027, to drive the successful implementation of a strategically critical technology and change project across New Zealand's four international airports.
This strategic initiative will modernise border processing with advanced biometric technology, enhancing security and efficiency for travellers. As Change Specialist, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring smooth adoption and operational readiness.
What you'll be doing | He aha tāu e mahi ana
Reporting to the Implementation and Stakeholder manager you will be:
- Leading change and communication planning, delivery, and stakeholder engagement.
- Assessing change impacts and tailoring strategies to support business adoption.
- Coordinating training and readiness activities with internal and external partners.
- Managing risks and escalating issues through governance channels.
- Delivering clear, audience-appropriate communications and engagement materials.
- Facilitating planning sessions and supporting environment readiness and release coordination.
- Building strong relationships across Customs, suppliers, and partner agencies.

To be successful in this role you'll be able to demonstrate the following:
- Proven experience in leading change initiatives within complex environments.
- Expertise in change management frameworks and delivery.
- Strong planning, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively.
- Confidence working independently and collaboratively under pressure.
- Familiarity with project delivery and continuous improvement practices.
- Proficiency in Office 365, Visio, and content creation platforms.
- Tertiary qualification (Bachelor level) or equivalent experience (5+ years) in change management.
