About the role
A rare and exciting opportunity for a permanent Charge Nurse Manager to lead the team at Te Whare Mauriora - open rehabilitation forensic unit.
This role will find you working alongside and leading a team consisting of: SMO, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Registered and Enrolled Nurses, Mental Health Assistants, Social work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Pukenga Atawhai and House keeper. We are a dynamic and cohesive team that strives to make a real difference, discovering and developing the strengths of our tāngata whaiora with the goal of optimum health and potential placement into a residential setting.
This key position involves managing the operational and clinical functions of a clinical inpatient unit working in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary teams across the Specialist Mental Health Service.
In this role, you will also be responsible for:
- Working closely alongside other key leadership positions. This will include recruitment of staff (nursing, allied health and mental health workforces), development of relevant policies and procedures and implementing the identified Model of care.
- Developing and supporting a positive team culture where care is collaborative, inclusive, and multi-disciplinary.
- Providing day to day clinical and operational leadership, ensuring high quality standards of consumer care.
About You
To be successful in this role you with be a Senior Registered Nurse with a Mental Health scope of practice. Ideally you will have recent experience working within a clinical leadership role within Forensic Mental Health or Specialist Mental Health Services and you will have excellent clinical skills, as well as an ability to ensure financial and operational objectives are carried out in line with the vision of Te Whatu Ora.
You will be a natural leader and therefore you will be an expert at developing and extending nursing practice, carrying out performance appraisals, auditing, quality improvement and providing overall clinical expertise. An expert in your field, you will further promote a high standard of consistent professional nursing practice that is contemporary, and patient focused.
Skills and experience
- Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC and mental health scope of practice
- Experience working within Forensic Mental Health or Specialist Mental Health services
- Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience including experience in the recruitment of staff (desirable)
- Have a relevant post graduate qualification, or be on the pathway to securing one (desirable)
- Possess a depth of clinical nursing knowledge and leadership ability
- Positive, self-motivated, flexible and solutions-focused mindset and experience in supporting change processes.
- Be an excellent communicator and a natural people person
- Impeccable time-management skills and process driven
- Experience in training and supporting the development of staff
- Exceptional communication and relationship building skills across all disciplines and a variety of teams (i.e. community teams / other inpatient units)
- Good knowledge and support for the integration of Tikanga Maori within an inpatient setting.
