About the Role
The role of Chief Midwifery is there to provide professional, strategic and clinical leadership, advice, and support to colleagues working across Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora.
This role is responsible for working collaboratively across the organisation, contributing to the development of a package of measures building on increased safety and support in clinical care, and the leadership and implementation of clinical projects and transformation work programmes.
About the Team/Service
Our team is a national function of the Hauora Māori Service group providing hauora Māori clinical leadership across Medical, Nursing, Midwifery, Allied Health & Scientific & Technical, Mental Health & Addiction. We lead the Hauora Māori system of care improvements and the oversight and development of a holistic model of care and the national approach to coordinated comprehensive Hauora care. The team also support the development of Hauora Māori standards across the organisation and champion Pae Ora excellence in care and values-based leadership.
About you
As Chief Midwifery, you will have experience in strategic and technical advice as well as leadership planning, monitoring and process review. You will have engagement with whānau, hāpori, and iwi Māori leaders will refresh the value of the role in hauora Māori midwifery, ensuring consistent messaging in alignment with clinical programmes of work to eliminate inequitable hauora outcomes for whānau. You will amplify the voice of mātauranga midwifery enable and support engagement with midwives to determine views to contribute to the development of strategies that will accelerate the spread of Te Ao Māori midwifery practice solutions. You will also lead the integration of hauora Māori midwifery relationships into Kahu Taurima programmes of work; including local, regional, and national connectivity across primary and community and hospital and specialist midwifery services.
You will have:
- 7+ years as a registered Midwife with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
- Minimum of five years in a senior leadership role with previous experience in a clinical leadership role
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of contemporary midwifery professional trends and issues in Aotearoa, with relevance to the legislative barriers
- Understanding of the Aotearoa maternity model and commitment to the maternity system as a ‘whole system' across all settings
