About the Role

This specialist role spans the maternity continuum, working in partnership with LMCs, hospital midwives, nurses and obstetric teams to deliver safe, culturally responsive, and coordinated care. You will provide clinical leadership in assessment, care planning, and decision-making, with a focus on emotional support, dignity, and manaaki for wāhine and whānau.

You’ll also contribute to:

  • Evidence-based guideline development and implementation
  • Staff education and mentorship in complex cases
  • Quality improvement and audit initiatives
  • Advocacy for equity and access, especially for underserved populations

As Clinical Midwife Specialist – Perinatal, you’ll improve outcomes for those experiencing high-risk pregnancies or perinatal loss. This is a meaningful opportunity to apply clinical expertise, lead service development, and influence care during some of maternity’s most critical moments.

Waikato Hospital is a major regional hospital in Hamilton and is a leading tertiary teaching hospital located in Hamilton, New Zealand, serving as the regional hub for the Midland area, which includes the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts. About you

You’ll bring advanced midwifery expertise and demonstrated leadership, including:

  • Five years clinical midwifery experience, with at least two years in a role relevant to perinatal loss or high-risk pregnancy care.
  • Attained Leadership Level on the Midwifery Quality and Leadership Programme.
  • Relevant postgraduate study (completed or currently in progress).
  • Proven contributions to clinical education, innovation, or research.
  • Registration with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand.
  • Current Annual Practising Certificate (no conditions).

Your ability to provide expert guidance, advocate for equitable care, and lead compassionate clinical improvement will be key to your success in this role.
