About the Role

In this unique role you will be part of a four-person Faster Cancer team. This vacant role focuses primarily on the Gynaecological cancer pathway but also supports other pathways as required.

This role provides clinical expertise and coordination of patients with high suspicion of cancer from referral through to initiation of treatment, in partnership with other health professionals. The Clinical Nurse Specialist directly coordinates the patient journey within the faster cancer treatment pathway utilising a model of patient and family/whanau centred care.

The role is focused on:

  • Meeting the timeframes within Faster Cancer Treatment pathways to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment decision making to optimise treatment outcomes.
  • Improving overall access and timeliness of diagnostic and treatment services for patients with cancer.
  • Providing clinical expertise and leading the advancement of professional knowledge and skills using evidence-based practice.
  • Providing support and knowledge to patients and families/whanau to assist them in understanding and participating in treatment choices and ongoing health care needs.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our team of four Clinical Nurse Specialists track patients journeys along a variety of tumour streams. This vacant role specializes in supporting patients on the Gynaecology pathway. The successful candidate could be based in either the Tauranga or Whakatane Hospital depending on the preference of the candidate.


About you

The ideal candidate would be a registered nurse with a post graduate diploma or Masters in the specialty area. The role requires computer competence and knowledge of the application of research findings to support evidence-based practice.
