The Opportunity | Ara Whiwhi Mahi
Community Compliance Officers interact with our customers face-to-face in our local communities and at IR's Front of House. Community Compliance officers are skilled across a range of tax accounts and compliance activities, manage our customer facing areas, introduce customers to self-service channels, and meet with customers in one-to-one and one-to-many situations in our local community.
In this varied role you will:
- Work directly with customers helping them understand their tax obligations, entitlements and how they can self-manage.
- Provide customer service across a variety of products both proactively and reactively to improve customer outcomes,
- Engage and build relationships with the community, tax professionals and small businesses to ensure compliance.
- Educate communities, including the delivery of seminars and presentations, on a self-management model utilising technology.
- Confidently conduct checks and targeted compliance activities in the community.
- Work in a networked way across IR and use insights gained to develop solutions for customers.
- Bring the voice of the customer into Inland Revenue.

To be successful in this role you will bring:
- Highly developed relationship management skills, including the ability to understand and build trust in potentially difficult, sensitive and/or complex situations.
- The ability to learn and use a range of Inland Revenue and business systems, processes, and software.
- The ability to address identified non-compliance through a range of appropriate enforcement activities and to escalate where required.
- The capability to understand and apply legislation and policy.
- A continuous improvement focus that will drive towards Inland Revenue’s goals for the future.
- A current full New Zealand driver’s license (essential).
- Flexibility for varied working hours and travel away from home (essential).

Community Compliance provides a front-line service for our customers, improving voluntary compliance through the relationships they foster in our communities and the services we provide. The team’s work includes Tax Agents, Front of House & Kaitakawaenga Māori.
