Are you passionate about supporting high-quality teaching and learning that makes a real difference for all akonga? As a Curriculum Adviser you'll be at the forefront of educational change, working directly with schools and kura in your region to implement curriculum and assessment and aromatawai changes.

This position has a focus on those akonga learning through te reo Maori, supporting the implementation of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa with a particular emphasis on tuarere 1-3. To strengthen our national Curriculum Advisory Service, you will have a strong background and understanding of teaching and learning through te reo Maori. You will also have extensive experiences and knowledges of relevant pedagogies and assessment and aromatawai practices.

As a Curriculum Adviser, you will provide advice to leadership teams and kaiako on implementing curriculum, assessment and aromatawai changes taking a whole of kura approach. We're seeking Curriculum Advisers who are fluent speakers of te reo Maori, have proven experience in leading kura wide curriculum development, and are experienced with and have expertise in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.

You will be part of a regional team using the Curriculum Advisory Service to:

  • Support all those learning through te reo Maori to implement the updated Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, building effective practices to provide akonga with quality teaching and learning so that it has the intended impact for learners.

  • Support professional learning to develop kaiako pedagogical content knowledge to successfully implement Rangaranga Reo a Ta and Pangarau and other priorities as appropriate.

  • Provide kaiako with advice and access to quality resources to support strengthening their teaching, assessment and aromatawai knowledge, practice and skills.

Salary range: $99,496 - $120,690 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mohou ake

  • To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following capabilities and competencies:

  • Fluent speaker of te reo Maori, with a specific understanding and use of curriculum language

  • Deep understanding of bilingualism and learning in bilingual contexts, te ao Maori, tikanga and matauranga Maori.

  • Effective curriculum design expertise and a deep working knowledge and practical experience in Maori Medium Education teaching is essential. Evidenced of improved outcomes for diverse communities is an advantage.

  • In-depth understanding and appreciation for assessment and aromatawai and the value-add it provides kaiako and akonga in guiding quality teaching and learning opportunities

  • Strong and growing understanding of the science of learning and the effective teaching practices that are needed to enact the knowledge rich curriculum to achieve high quality learner outcomes.

  • Strong, proven expertise in whole school curriculum planning and delivery that supports consistency of teaching and learning with the ability to support professional change in education settings.

  • Deep pedagogical knowledge, both the underlying expertise and the ability to build others knowledge. Please state your area of pedagogical expertise in your application.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective partnerships to drive change, using strong interpersonal, facilitation, and diplomacy skills. Skilled in leading, motivating, and coaching kaiako, teachers and leaders to build capability and implement change

  • A full current NZ driver licence as travel will be required.

  • The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

About our group and team | Matau ropu ake

Te Mahau | (add takiwa) are frontline groups that collectively provides leadership and integrated services to the sector and others. This includes services such as learning support and education advice, and regulation functions for kohanga, schools, kura and early learning services.

As a frontline group we develop and harness existing relationships with communities at the regional and local level, including deep relationships with iwi and hapu.

We also collectively strengthen relationships with our diverse communities who support Maori, Pacific peoples, disabled akonga and/or akonga with learning support needs, and akonga from disadvantaged backgrounds.
