Mō Mātou | About us:

At ASB, we believe progress is more than just financial — it's about helping New Zealanders, communities, and our environment thrive together. We're a purpose-led organisation with a proud history and a clear vision: to support Kiwis in getting one step ahead. Our work is guided by strong values — caring, integrity, courage, passion, and unity — and brought to life by a diverse team of people who genuinely care about making a difference.

As one of Aotearoa's most trusted banking partners, we combine the stability and scale of a large organisation with a culture that ensures you're recognised as an individual. Your ideas, your growth, and your contribution matter here — and you'll be supported to do meaningful work that has a real impact, every day.

Mō te Tūranga |About the role:

Our Payments Platform is at the core of delivering secure, reliable payment experiences for all our customers — from everyday Kiwis to major corporate clients. Within this space, our Shield Squad sits under the Foundational Payments stream, responsible for ensuring the platform remains healthy, secure, and always available.

We're looking for a DevSecOps Engineer with strong Card Payment & Security expertise to help us lead the way. You'll play a key role in building, maintaining, and supporting our applications, while also contributing to testing and quality processes across the team.

You'll be part of a cross-functional squad that operates with agility and autonomy. It's a collaborative and inclusive environment where your voice matters, your ideas are valued, and you'll get the chance to work on complex, large-scale systems that truly make a difference.

What you'll be doing:

  • Reviewing requirements and specifications
  • Creating and executing agile testing strategies and plans
  • Building and maintaining test automation frameworks
  • Supporting performance and load testing efforts
  • Validating and verifying new functionality
  • Analysing and reporting test results
  • Investigating and identifying issues within payments functionality (e.g. tracing errors or root causes in transaction processing)
  • Collaborating with stakeholders on end-to-end testing and sign-off
  • Presenting test outcomes and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences

This is a great opportunity to grow your skills in a forward-thinking team working on systems that power the everyday.

Ō pūkenga | About you:

We're after someone with a strong DevSecOps mindset — someone who champions secure, reliable, and efficient delivery from design through to deployment. You'll be a key voice in shaping quality practices and driving continuous improvement across our squad and wider platform.

You'll enjoy digging into detail, working across squads, and bringing people together to solve complex problems. Initiative, collaboration, and a willingness to share knowledge are key — leadership here is about influence, not hierarchy.

Ideally, you'll bring experience in:

  • Security and infrastructure engineering in DevSecOps environments
  • Leading or mentoring with a focus on secure design and delivery
  • Building relationships across teams and managing stakeholder expectations
  • Payments systems and compliance awareness
  • Linux/Windows admin, basic containerisation, and orchestration
  • Networking, virtualisation (e.g. VMware), and certificate management
  • Observability, monitoring, and automation tooling
  • Managing service roadmaps and owning solutions end-to-end

Bonus points for:

  • InfoSec or cloud security experience
  • Banking/finance domain knowledge
  • Scripting in Bash or PowerShell
  • Cloud and IaC tools (Azure, AWS, Terraform, etc.)

Te mahi ki ASB | Working for ASB

ASB's sense of who we are and what we stand for is grounded in our values. They guide our business in our day-to-day interactions with our team, customers and community. They are what makes ASB - ASB.

Along with our interactions, values guide our actions and conduct, making ASB a safe and inclusive environment for both our people and our customers. They show that we care, are passionate and courageous, and that we act with integrity. Most importantly they unite us - because they are ASB.

We offer a flexible and supportive work environment and offer an open and inclusive culture; a place where we welcome and value your individuality, ideas and goals.

  • Career Growth: Access to learning and development through training sessions, courses, and internal opportunities.
  • Inclusive Culture: Join values-led teams that celebrate diversity and support employee-led communities.
  • Health & Wellbeing: Southern Cross Wellbeing One health insurance, lifestyle and volunteering leave, and mental wellbeing support.
  • Meaningful Benefits: Enjoy discounted banking, insurance, and a generous parental leave top-up.
  • Impactful Work: Be part of a purpose-led organisation that makes a difference for New Zealanders.
